Our AI Position
Our AI Position
Last updated: June 2, 2026
Epistemic AI builds generative AI for one of the highest-stakes domains there is: the science and strategy behind new medicines. The decisions our customers make can shape research programs, clinical trials, and patient outcomes. That responsibility sets the bar for how we build and use AI, and this statement makes our commitments explicit.
Generative AI is transformative for life sciences. It can synthesize vast bodies of evidence, surface non-obvious connections, and accelerate hypothesis generation in ways that were not possible before. It also carries well-documented risks, including hallucinated facts, hidden bias, and the temptation to over-rely on automated output. In a regulated, evidence-driven field, those risks are not acceptable as the cost of convenience. Our principles are guardrails, not suggestions.
1. Trustworthy and Grounded
-
Traceable to sources. Our platform grounds its answers in identifiable evidence and provides citations so users can verify every claim against its source.
-
No fabricated certainty. We design our systems to distinguish what is supported by evidence from what is inferred, and to surface uncertainty rather than hide it.
-
Data privacy and security. We protect the information entrusted to us and do not use customer data to train models shared with other customers without explicit permission. See our Privacy Policy for details.
2. Human in the Loop
-
Augment, never replace. Our AI is built to extend the judgment of scientists and strategists, not to substitute for it. People remain accountable for decisions.
-
Expert oversight by design. Workflows keep a qualified human in control, with the ability to inspect, challenge, and override AI-generated output.
3. Fair and Transparent
-
Bias mitigation. We actively evaluate our systems for bias and work to ensure that coverage and results are representative of the evidence, not of who shouts loudest.
-
Clear about what is AI. We are transparent about where and how AI is used, and about its capabilities and limits.
-
Continuous evaluation. Responsible AI is not a one-time checkbox. We monitor, test, and improve our systems as the science and the technology evolve.
Our Commitment
These principles guide the products we build and the way our team works. As generative AI advances, our commitment to trustworthy, human-centered, and transparent practice stays constant. If you have questions about our approach, contact us at policy@epistemic.ai.
